Mini-Sommerskolen

New track for children aged 7-9

Mini Summer School is a special offer for the youngest children aged 7-9 who are not yet old enough to attend The Summer School – but still would like to try to attend summer school without their parents.

At Mini Summer School, students enjoy a fun and educational experience in a safe environment together with other Danish children who are growing up outside Denmark.

9 days tailored to 7-9-year-olds

The Mini Summer School is shorter than the Summer School and lasts nine days from July 16 to 24, 2026. The children are met with a safe and nurturing environment, where Danish lessons are combined with fun activities, and plenty of Danish hygge.

The children strengthen their Danish language skills and identity while experiencing the joy of the special community at Summer School and making new friends from all over the world.

Fun days with Danish lessons and activities

At Mini Summer School, Danish lessons are held in the morning, followed by creative and fun activities for the rest of the day. All lessons are taught through movement, song, stories, and creative exercises, so that children experience Danish as a lively and exciting language.

Danish lessons

In the morning, the children receive Danish lessons tailored to their age and level. The lessons focus on strengthening language skills through play, conversation, and exercises, so that the children have a positive experience with Danish.

The level is tailored to each individual, and with two teachers, we can divide the students into smaller groups, helping everyone improve their Danish speaking, reading, and writing skills.

Activities

In the afternoon and evening, there is everything from ball games, acrobatics, and beach volleyball to creative workshops, music, and a board game café. There are also quiet moments with movie nights and creative activities – and, of course, classic summer school experiences such as disco nights, the Faxe Kondi competition, and trips to Djurs Sommerland.

In addition, we go on excursions and visit a farm, so the children take home both fun and memorable experiences.

The summerschool is amazing, I really want to come back next year!

Separate area

The Mini Summer School has its own separate area where the pupils are grouped together. They have their own classrooms and playground, but can also use the same facilities at the school as the 10-13 year olds.

Everyone stays in the same corridor, where the two teachers also have their rooms.

Daily life

The students share rooms with two or three others, providing ample opportunity for socializing.

Good night and sleep well

Everyone goes to bed at the same time so that we are well rested for the next day.

Every evening, we have a fixed bedtime routine: brushing our teeth together, a bedtime story with duvets and teddy bears – and a goodnight hug for everyone.

A caring environment in a small group

The student will be guided by two permanent teachers and supported by two educators who create a warm, secure, and manageable learning experience.

What does a typical day at the Mini Summer School look like?

Every morning and evening we gather for announcements and singing together. Danish lessons take place from 9:00 to 12:00, and the rest of the time is filled with activities and excursions.

One of the highlights is a joint trip with the other age groups to Djurs Sommerland, where we spend the whole day having fun together..

Can I get in touch with my child?

Yes. We arrange a visiting day halfway through the program and there is a set time every day for FaceTime calls with your child.

In addition, you can always reach out to the teachers and the head of the section if needed.

What if my child gets homesick?

We recommend enrolling your child only if you believe they can thrive being away from home for the full period. Homesickness is completely natural – and most children get through it quickly – but it still requires the child to be ready for the experience.

Preparation can start at home by letting your child sleep over at friends’ or grandparents’ houses, so they get used to being away overnight.

What if my child doesn’t speak Danish very well?

It is important that your child can make themselves understood in Danish or English – both for safety and for their wellbeing. They must be able to understand important instructions, express their needs, and take part in the lessons and community life.

What do the children do in their free time?

The children enjoy a varied and safe activity program with creative, calm, and active options. Examples include board game café, movie night, arts and crafts, music, beach volleyball, ball games, acrobatics, farm visits, and nature excursions.

They also get to enjoy classic Summer School traditions such as the Faxe Kondi Challenge, disco night, and of course the big joint trip to Djurs Sommerland. Everything is planned in advance, so the children always know what to look forward to.
