A Danish confirmation

Since 2013, we have confirmed 150 young people from around the world – and, of course, we’ll continue!
The students in the group spend their days with the pastor discussing Christianity and what it means to be Christian today – as well as concepts like ethics, morality, and compassion. At the same time, students get acquainted with hymns and songs, including those from the Danish Hymn Book.

Confirmation classes

In the past, it was referred to as “attending the pastor’s seminars”. Today, we think of it as “preparation for confirmation” when students around the age of 14 receive instruction to get ready for their confirmation ceremony. At Summer School, we offer a special track of 75 lessons including classroom work and visits to churches across Denmark, plus attendance at church services to give students insight into the traditions and rituals of the Church of Denmark.

The lessons deal with the Christian tradition and faith and in addition cover topics such as ethics and moral values. Students will get to know key hymns and songs from the Danish Hymnal and other sources.

Preparation and the Confirmation Ceremony

The instructional content is provided by two specialized teachers, and the confirmation ceremony is performed by a local pastor. Classes take place at the venue housing students aged 13-15.

Students in the confirmation track do not attend the Danish language lessons in which other students participate.

Prerequisites

Students wishing to register for the track must speak Danish at the School Level and must have received a Christian baptism; those who were not baptized may participate in that sacrament during Summer School.
The confirmation track is dedicated to Summer School students living outside Denmark who do not have access to a Danish church.

How to enroll at the Confirmation Class

The Confirmation Class is part of the Summer School, and students in the class participate in the Summer School along with all the other students.
To enroll in the Confirmation Class, you need to register for the Summer School in our webshop as usual.
During the registration process, you will have the option to select the Confirmation Class before completing your purchase.

Activities, sparetime and accommodation for all students

At the summer school, students also do a range of exciting activities in the afternoons. These range from sports, drama and music to creative workshops and outdoor activities.
We also make sure that the students have time to socialise around a campfire or watch a film in the evening.

The summer school is held at three different boarding schools in Denmark, where we divide the students across tracks according to age. So you’re sure to find lots of friends your own age.

Want to know more?

We regularly organise online information meetings about the Danish Summer School and the different classes. Here you can meet former students, hear about the Danish lessons and the many different activities. Of course, you will also have the opportunity to ask questions. The meetings are held in both Danish and English.
