Danish Summer School for families

12-20 July 2025 in Denmark. A unique family stay for expat Danes with a focus on Danish language and culture.

Family Summer School is for children aged 6-13 with Danish background along with up to two relatives such as parents, grandparents, or other close family members. It represents a unique opportunity to acquire knowledge of Denmark and the Danish language and to gain a network with other.

The Family Summer School 2025 will be held from 12-20 July 2025.
Registration and prices

Danish language and culture

Family Summer School focuses on the culture of Denmark and language through Danish class, activities, and excursions. Your family will have a chance to have fun and relax together and at the same time get a cultural and linguistic boost that will strengthen your connection to Denmark. Your family will have an experience to energize body and soul.

Intensive language courses

Family Summer School is not a “summer camp” but a school where educated Danish teachers set academic goals for their class. Children are introduced to Danish teaching methods, where group work and collaboration are keywords. The daily program is structured so it quickly gives everyone a comfortable and pleasant routine.

Activities and spare time

When the daytime lessons are done, attendees may participate in a variety of activities and tours designed for the entire family. The intent of these activities is to provide an opportunity for each family to share experiences in which the Danish language and the culture of Denmark are front and center.

Danish for Beginners

Danish for Beginners is designed for children over the age of 10 and for teens and adults who wish to learn the language ’from scratch’.

Intermediate Danish

Intermediate Danish is divided into two levels: Basic Danish (B1) is suitable for those who are familiar with most grammatical rules but want to achieve greater fluency in speaking and writing.

School level Danish

School Level Danish is for students who want to speak and write Danish at the same level as children of the same age in Denmark. At the Family Summer School you can choose from grades pre-school to 7th.

Want to know more?

We regularly organise online information meetings about the Danish Summer School and the different classes. Here you can meet former students, hear about the Danish lessons and the many different activities. Of course, you will also have the opportunity to ask questions. The meetings are held in both Danish and English.

The Danish language courses

During the event, children will receive between 28 and 35 Danish lessons with a playfull and fun approach. This forms a versatile and creative teaching. It’s supposed to be fun for everyone to learn Danish.
The lessons for children are offered at three levels (beginner, basic, and school level). Our teachers are professional and experienced teachers who have developed innovative instructional approaches geared to the participants.

Additionally, both children and adults get language tools that they can use after and in their everyday life.

Activities for adults

If you don’t want to participate in Danish lessons, you can instead choose between various activities for adults. The school has a sports hall, creative workshops and beautiful outdoor areas.

With the forest and beach close by, you can also explore nature, go kayaking or canoeing or enjoy a trip to the beach or Svendborg’s cosy city centre.

The Family Summer School is held at Svendborg Efterskole. It is located close to a large forest, beach and the centre of Svendborg.
You will be accommodated in corridors with 2-4 person rooms. All rooms have their own toilet and shower and most rooms also have a balcony.

A group of people, including children and adults, are gathered around a buffet table serving themselves food. The table, perfect for a family gathering, features a variety of dishes like peas and salad. The setting has a casual summer-school vibe with everyone enjoying the laid-back atmosphere.

Healthy and delicious food

At the Family Summer School healthy and nutritious foods are served a totalt of six times a day. Three main meals and three supplementary meals. Any allergies are to be reported after the registration. If you have any special need we will do our best to comply

Daily program for the Family Summer School

After the breakfast we all gather together to sing Danish songs.
The language courses runs until the middle of the afternoon after which the different leisure activities begin.
Each day ends with another gathering with singing and the opportunity for more activities and hygge until its time for bed.

We have had the best summer! The children learned a ton of Danish, and we have made a lot of new friends from all across the world.
