Retention of Danish Citizenship

If your child is born outside of Denmark, Danes Worldwide recommends that you apply for retention of Danish citizenship before the child turns 22. This webinar will explain the rules, the application process, and answer your questions.

If you were born abroad, you risk losing your citizenship when you turn 22 if you have not resided in Denmark under circumstances indicating some association with Denmark. If you do not apply for retention, you may be at risk of automatically forfeiting your Danish citizenship upon your 22nd birthday. That is why we always recommend that Danish children born abroad apply for retention of citizenship.

At the webinar, Caroline Ulrich, Legal Advisor at Danes Worldwide, will explain the requirements for retaining Danish citizenship and the process of applying for it.

We would like to emphasize that this webinar does not cover the rules for reacquisition of Danish citizenship (Learn more about reacquisition here).
